PROJECT LITERACY
VR Puts a Face on Global Illiteracy
Insight
Reading is one of the few human abilities society completely takes for granted. The world is designed with the assumption that everyone can understand it and when you can’t, everyday life becomes filled with quiet moments of stress, dependence, exclusion, and shame.
Tension
Because literacy feels invisible to those who have it, the emotional reality of illiteracy is incredibly difficult for people to truly empathize with through statistics or awareness messaging alone.
Idea
As part of Project Literacy’s global campaign and “Alphabet of Illiteracy” platform, we created an immersive VR experience that allowed audiences to emotionally experience the disorientation, anxiety, and isolation of navigating a world without literacy transforming the issue from abstract data into human understanding.
