Turning a Cult Platform Into a Cultural Brand

As Makeship rapidly grew from a niche fandom platform into a global entertainment and commerce brand, its identity needed to evolve alongside the scale of its ambition. The brand had built deep loyalty with online communities, but its visual world and voice no longer reflected the sophistication, creativity, and cultural influence the business had grown into.

Tension
Makeship was expanding beyond plush into new categories, audiences, and partnerships, but its existing brand system lacked the consistency, flexibility, and emotional storytelling needed to support that growth. The challenge was not just modernizing the brand, but evolving it without losing the community driven spirit fans already loved.

Idea
Over six months, Academy partnered with Makeship to lead a full brand evolution spanning visual identity, brand voice, campaign development, photography, apparel, and digital experience. The rebrand introduced a more elevated and cohesive creative system designed to scale with the business while staying rooted in fandom culture. Alongside a redesigned web experience launching in July 2026, we developed nine integrated campaigns across Pride, Plush, apparel, and Fan Anthems helping position Makeship as a more expressive, premium, and culturally resonant brand for its next phase of growth.
